The Multilateral Environmental Agreements and WTO

Environment taking the back seat

This report written by Göran Eklöf for Church of Sweden and Diakonia Sweden in cooperation with two other Swedish NGOs tries to clarify which problems and opportunities have arisen in the meeting between the world trade rules and the MEAs. It can be a good input to the urgent discussion on how to provide better conditions for the international cooperation for sustainable development.

Agreement on Agriculture

Trade Liberalisation in Agriculture: Lessons from the first 10 years of the WTO - by Devinder Sharma - Commissioned by APRODEV and the German NGO Forum Environment and Development - December 2005

This report is an attempt not only to map a wide spectrum of issues that are currently at the heart of the ongoing negotiations in agriculture but also to trace the impact such policies have left behind on the farming communities of the developing countries. With concluding suggestions to make trade fair and equitable, we are hopeful that the report will help bring the focus of international trade in agriculture back where it legitimately belongs – to bring back the smile to the face of small farmers. - DS
